Objectives and challenges
OXID eSales is a leading manufacturer of the innovative e-commerce standard software OXID eShop The main goal of the partnership between OXID eSales and Technopark is the development of software updates, code optimisations and customer specific extensions of the OXID eShop shopping cart system. In the dynamic market of e-commerce, standard software with international competitors like Intershop, OXID eSales is forced to improve their state-of-the-art core product continuously. Within the project special skills in the development of highly scalable and modular e-commerce applications using PHP and MySQL as well as specific knowledge of the template engine Smarty were required. Project flow Due to the specialized requirements for that client Technopark developed a three step approach to build up the recruiting, the programming team and the workflows: Technopark developed the project plan together with OXID in an initial workshop. As a result the key requirements concerning developer skills and number as well as the organisational structure and the time frame of the project were defined. Technopark recruited the programming team and prepared the employment contracts. Moreover, Technopark provided offices and the IT and communication infrastructure. OXID managed and controlled the whole project development process.
OXID was fully responsible for release testing and quality management. As a result of the partnership OXID eSales released OXID eShop product. Focussing on medium sized companies with the early system releases, OXID eSales is now able to offer an enterprise edition of the OXID eShop for international operating companies. The OXID eShop was awarded as the best German Internet shopping system by the major German Internet magazine Internet World. Since May 2004 Technopark is official distributor of OXID eShop in Lithunia and thereby has strengthened the partnership with OXID eSales. |
